Running is by no means a fair weather sport. Come wind, rain, snow or ice there’s no excuses as it is possible to go running in it. The only problem is that the harsher the weather conditions the more risk there is. This obviously presents its problems as no one wants to get injured whilst running as doing so can prevent you from doing a lot of other things. It may result in needing to take time off work, spending a considerable time in hospital or you may only be bothered that it means more time off running!

Always Wear Suitable Shoes
Suitable running footwear is always advised. You don’t have to purchase the most expensive running shoes at your local sports shop but you do need a half decent pair of running shoes. Your shoes should be comfy to wear and shouldn’t cause you discomfort whilst running they must also be able to be tied properly. This is because tying your shoelaces is fundamental for all weather running. Doing so will stop your feet from moving about in your shoe therefore reducing the likelihood of you tripping over or rolling over on your ankle. The shoes you wear should also have good grip so that you can wear them whilst running in all terrains.
Wear The Correct Types Of Clothes
The number of runners who head out running in unsuitable running gear is simply overwhelming at times. If you want to face multiple types of weather conditions you need to be prepared; and wearing the correct clothes is the definite way to go about this. Clothing should be able to keep you both warm and waterproof. These two qualities will help you in most weather conditions that you may face. It is always better to stay away from loose fitting clothes as they may snag on things that you run past leading to injury.
Take A Backpack
Backpacks are essential when running in potentially dangerous conditions. This is because you can put all the items that you may you need in it. A first aid kit is always a great call and a mobile phone is as well. Extra layers that you may need as well as a map are also good things to take with you. This applies more if you are running in a place you are not all too familiar with. A great piece of advice is to keep the backpack secure against your body by making the straps as tight as they can go without being uncomfortable. This will make running with the backpack a lot easier as it the backpack will not knock against you and throw you off balance or cause pain to your back.
Make Sure You Have Enough Energy
Some weather conditions can take up more energy to tackle than you think. For example running straight against the wind takes a lot of effort compared to running with it. Because of this it is vital that you keep your energy levels topped up. It is good to make sure you have a meal containing a high proportion of carbs before you embark on your run. It is also sensible to take some form of energy drink that will supply you with energy if you find you are in need of it whilst out on your run.
